Thank you for your inquiry about Gardenia Design Services.

Outlined below is information regarding the range of services I provide.

I hope you will find this helpful.

Consultation

The first step is to arrange a no obligation consultation visit, during which time I will present a portfolio of plans outlining my work.  If you wish to proceed we will then discuss your ideas and requirements in detail.  An accurate quotation for the completed design work will be confirmed in writing, and following your agreement, design work will proceed.  One of the most important stages in a bespoke garden design is the brief detailing the clients’ requirements.  This is covered as fully as possible at this stage.

Before the visit, in order for me to understand your requirements it is useful if you have considered your likes and dislikes, for example, plants, colours, styles, material and features. In addition it would be useful to understand who and what will the garden be used for, how much time is available for maintenance, an idea of the budget.  The consultation will normally take between 1 and 2 hours.

Site Survey and Analysis

A survey of the site will be undertaken, including levels and details of soil, plants and other features.  On larger or more difficult sites, e.g. sloping, I may instruct a surveyor to produce a detailed land survey and charge you directly.  However, this will be discussed with you prior to instruction.

Drawings

An initial outline design proposal is first produced to give a clear idea of the intended design and is used to provide ideas for discussion.  It gives you an overall layout for your garden.  After further discussion a presentation drawing will be prepared which meets your overall requirements. This will include details of hard landscaping materials and planting preferences.  We can also produce construction drawings, layout dimensions and written specifications for your contractor.

You will receive one colour copy and one black and white copy of the design. Further copies are available for a small charge.

While minor changes to the design will not be charged for, fundamental changes of mind or circumstances affecting the design will be charged at an hourly rate.  This will be discussed with you in advance.

Planting Plan with Schedule

This will show plant positions and quantities with a full schedule, showing the species of plants recommended and their positioning and spacing.  A plant schedule will also be provided to accompany the drawings to facilitate ordering.  Where large quantities of plants are required to be planted by you, a competitive quotation from reputable nurseries can be obtained.

Implementation

As an alternative to using your own contractor, I can arrange for the construction and planting of your new garden through reputable contractors. This may involve the preparation of tender documentation, an invitation to tender and tender reports.

Project InspectionTulips

Inspection and monitoring of the construction and planting can be arranged where a contractor has been employed.  This will involve visiting the site to ensure that the work has been carried out to the specification, to approve materials and to solve problems that might arise during the contract.
