Modern Contemporary Back Garden

Gardenia Design were asked to create a contemporary modern garden which could be used for dining, entertaining and relaxing.

The owner wanted to maximize the south facing aspect by having two separate seating areas. They were keen to use neutral colours with modern high spec materials and architectural low maintenance planting.

As the garden is sloping, it presented a challenge. However it was a blank canvas with only grass. The existing back door opened out to a row of single steps providing the main access from the house to the garden.  In order to maximise the evening sun a raised deck was built adjacent to the house, providing the owner a seating area for relaxing.

A lawn with stepping stones has been created as the central area to the garden with an adjacent patio for entertaining. A further seating area was created in the opposite corner utlising rendered blockwork and hardwood seating. Two tones of grey natural sandstone were used throughout the design.  Ground level planting beds and raised planters provide the planting areas for the garden Bamboo has been planted along the back fencing to screen and soften the view from the house.

A selection of grasses, climbers and architectural plants such as Fatsia, Phormiums, Euphorbias and Achilllias have been used throughout the planting areas.
